Tennessee Softball Unveils Summitt Blue Uniform

The Tennessee Lady Vols continue to honor their storied history with the introduction of their Summitt Blue softball uniforms. A nod to tradition and a tribute to a legend, this fresh look carries deep meaning for Tennessee athletics.

What is now known as Summitt Blue traces its roots back to 1968, when the Lady Vols women’s basketball team first donned blue-accented uniforms. At the time, orange uniforms weren’t readily available from manufacturers, leading Tennessee’s women’s athletic director emeritus, Joan Cronan, to opt for a Columbia blue base with orange lettering and piping. This unique color scheme became a signature of Lady Vols athletics, representing strength, resilience, and excellence.

In 2022, during the NCAA’s celebration of Title IX’s 50th anniversary, Tennessee officially renamed its signature blue to Summitt Blue, paying homage to the legendary Pat Summitt. A trailblazer for women’s sports, Summitt’s coaching career at Tennessee spanned 38 years, earning eight national championships and an astounding 1,098-208 record. Her legacy extends beyond wins and titles—she revolutionized women’s basketball and paved the way for future generations of female athletes.

The new Summitt Blue softball uniforms are a striking fusion of past and present, staying true to the Lady Vols' heritage while embracing modern design. The Columbia blue base is complemented by Tennessee’s signature orange accents, including the iconic Lady Vols script logo across the chest. The look is completed with orange-and-white piping, a crisp white belt, and the unmistakable Power T logo on the pants.

Greg Beckwith, a Hall-of-Fame point guard for Richmond during the mid-1980s, passed away unexpectedly in May after a heart attack. His impact on the basketball program and beyond is immeasurable. Beckwith’s senior season in 1985-86 saw him guide the Spiders back to the NCAA Tournament, building on the success of the team’s historic first NCAA appearance in 1984, when they shocked Auburn and Charles Barkley in the first round.

The new white throwback uniforms were meticulously crafted to pay homage to the iconic style of the 1985-86 season. The jerseys feature a classic v-neck design made from white mesh, accented with navy blue and power red details. The school name is displayed in a vertical arc across the chest in full block font, with power red lettering outlined in navy blue. Additional elements include the adidas and Atlantic 10 logos, as well as a special #BeckEffect hashtag on the inner back collar, further emphasizing Beckwith’s enduring influence.

Adding to the excitement, UH is the first college program in the nation to hold a nationwide uniform design contest, inviting fans to submit their creative visions. The contest garnered an impressive 125 submissions, with designs reflecting the spirit and culture of Hawaii.

The winning design, dubbed the “sUHrf City” uniform, was created by Isaac Daggett, a talented fan from Colorado Springs. Daggett’s design captures the essence of the islands and the pride of the Rainbow Wahine. To celebrate his achievement, UH will fly Daggett to Hawaii to attend Saturday’s game, where he will be honored on the court in front of thousands of fans.

In the 1960s, the Houston Police Department adopted the light blue color for their patrol cars, further embedding the hue into the city's visual identity. Additionally, the Houston Buffs, the city’s former minor league baseball team, sported blue lettering on their white and gray jerseys. In 1960, the team’s caps featured a bold blue with a white "H," and by 1961, their jerseys proudly displayed light blue lettering. Manchester City and PUMA have launched an unprecedented global fan vote, giving supporters the chance to select the club's official 2026/27 Third Kit. This initiative follows the groundbreaking PUMA AI Creator Kit Design competition announced in December, a revolutionary fan activation that has redefined how football kits are created.

The PUMA AI Creator competition invited City fans worldwide to unleash their creativity using innovative design tools, including text prompts, customisation options, and intuitive sliders. Over 180,000 designs were submitted by fans, showcasing their passion and vision for the club. These designs were evaluated through 1.6 million ratings on the platform, resulting in a shortlist of ten standout designs that encapsulate the spirit of creativity, passion, and City culture.

Now, PUMA and Manchester City are calling on fans to make history by voting for their favourite design. The winning kit will be worn on-pitch by Manchester City players during the 2026/27 season, marking a significant milestone in fan-driven innovation. Voting is open at aicreator.puma.com and will run until January 29, 2025.

Adding to the excitement, Manchester City goalkeepers will debut the PUMA AI Creator goalkeeper kit during two fixtures on January 25: the men's match against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium and the women’s away clash against Aston Villa. Designed collaboratively by players Ederson, Stefan Ortega, and Rico Lewis using PUMA AI Creator tools, the goalkeeper kit draws inspiration from the net of a goal and features striking colours reminiscent of Ederson’s Brazilian roots.

Ederson shared his excitement: “It’s the first time I’ve designed a shirt together with Stefan and Rico, and I’m so happy I’ll get to see our shirt on the pitch. It looks amazing—the colours are so nice, they remind me of the colours of Brazil.”

This historic kit, the first AI-generated football kit ever manufactured, will also be available for purchase as a limited edition at City Stores located at the Etihad Stadium and Arndale Centre starting January 25, while supplies last.

Serena Gosling, Manchester City’s Director of Integrated Fan Experience and Retail & Licensing, expressed her enthusiasm for the project: “We know how passionate fans are about kits, and how important the kits we wear each season are.
