Houston Cougars Introduce “Houston Blue” Uniforms to Honor City

The University of Houston Athletics is set to bring back a special color in their uniform palette: "Houston Blue." In a tribute to the city’s history, culture, and legacy, the Cougars will wear this new blue uniform during select games, with Houston Football leading the charge on Senior Day against in-state rival Baylor on November 23. This celebration invites fans to join in by creating a “Blue Out” to honor the city that the university calls home.

“Houston Blue” is more than just a new look for the Cougars. The color pays homage to the distinct blue seen in various elements of Houston’s past, making it a powerful symbol of local pride. From the classic blue street markers scattered across the city to the Houston Police Department’s iconic blue vehicles, this shade holds a special place in the city’s heritage. As Eddie Nuñez, University of Houston Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, explains, “Incorporating ‘Houston Blue’ into our uniforms is a powerful way to celebrate the city's rich history… We're thrilled to share this tradition with our fans and offer them the chance to show their pride through exclusive merchandise.”

The roots of “Houston Blue” go back nearly a century. In the 1920s, Houston’s original street markers were designed with light blue and white tiles embedded into the city’s cement curbs. Approximately 4,000 of these iconic markers remain intact today, providing Houstonians a visual connection to the city’s early days.

In the 1960s, the Houston Police Department incorporated the color into their fleet of cars and helicopters, further embedding “Houston Blue” into the city’s identity. Even in sports, Houston’s legacy with the color runs deep: the Houston Buffs, the city’s minor league baseball team, wore blue accents on their jerseys and caps. In 1961, their uniforms featured light blue lettering, further solidifying the color’s association with Houston’s athletic history.

This addition of “Houston Blue” is more than a uniform change—it’s a celebration of the city’s heritage and an invitation for the Houston community to rally together in a shared display of pride. With its historic connections and deep-rooted ties to the city, Houston Blue is set to become a unifying color for the Cougars, offering fans a fresh way to support their team and hometown.

Northwestern Football's Gothic Uniform

the Northwestern Wildcats Gothic uniform set pays homage to Northwestern’s roots while embracing the Gothic architectural style that defines the campus. Dubbed the “Gothic Uniform,” this ensemble combines a striking black-and-gold color scheme with bold purple accents, blending the university's heritage with modern design elements.

While today we associate Northwestern with its signature purple, black and gold were actually the first colors adopted by the student body in 1879. Shortly after, the school transitioned to purple and gold, marking the beginning of purple’s long-standing association with Northwestern.

A standout feature of the Gothic uniform is the black matte helmet, now updated with historic details. The helmet’s purple “N” logo is outlined in gold, standing out boldly against the black background. featuring a modified Northwestern stripe in a gold-purple-gold sequence that honors both the school’s Gothic architecture and its athletic tradition.

Northwestern has added an image to the back of the helmet. Players will don the iconic Weber Arch, a recognizable landmark on the Evanston campus that has welcomed students and visitors alike since 1993. The arch symbolizes the university's commitment to tradition and excellence—a fitting image to complement the Wildcats’ game-day gear.

The uniform’s overall design is sleek and contemporary, yet it pulls heavily from Northwestern’s rich history. The predominantly black and gold color palette is punctuated by purple accents, allowing the original school colors to take center stage while incorporating Northwestern’s beloved purple. The matte black helmets, paired with the unique stripe and Weber Arch detail, make a bold statement that connects past with present, reflecting the Gothic architecture that defines Northwestern's campus.

USC Trojans Embrace Tradition with 1972 Throwback Uniform

In an exciting nod to their storied past, the USC Trojans will step onto the field this Saturday wearing retro uniforms from the 1972 season. As USC hosts the Nebraska Cornhuskers for their first Big Ten homecoming game, the team is honoring a key era in Trojans history with these classic threads. Known as one of college football’s traditional programs, USC rarely strays from its iconic look. But for this occasion, they're diving into a vintage aesthetic that will be both familiar and nostalgic for fans.

USC is renowned for its adherence to tradition when it comes to uniforms. Unlike many programs that adopt flashy alternates or frequently change designs, the Trojans stay true to their roots. They don’t wear names on the back of their jerseys, stick to classic black cleats with white socks, and have maintained the same cardinal-and-gold color scheme for decades. So when USC does make a change, it's usually subtle and purposeful. This weekend’s throwback uniform encapsulates that ethos: it’s a slight departure, but the look is unmistakably USC.

The throwback jersey the Trojans will don on Saturday has one key difference from the current uniform: the sleeve design. From 1972 to 2002, USC's jerseys featured a specific sleeve stripe pattern — a triple-stripe with a white/gold/white sequence. This weekend, those iconic stripes return, giving fans a taste of the Trojans’ look from the early ’70s, a period when the team won national titles and built a legacy under Coach John McKay.

Today’s jerseys have adapted to modern tastes, with a thicker half-moon stripe on the shoulder caps and bold TV numbers for easy visibility. This weekend's throwbacks, however, ditch the TV numbers, creating a cleaner, more streamlined look. Additionally, the front and back numbers on the throwback jerseys are narrower, hearkening back to an era when simplicity and functionality dominated uniform design.

True to form, USC hasn’t tampered with one of the most iconic helmets in college football. The throwback look maintains the classic cardinal helmet, complete with the famous Trojan head logo on each side. The helmet will also feature a gray facemask, a small detail that has been a part of the Trojans' look for years and will stay consistent for this special game. It’s a visual tie between generations of players and fans, reminding everyone of the pride associated with donning the Trojan head.

While the jersey gets a slight throwback update, the rest of the uniform remains true to USC’s current look, especially the pants. The Trojans will sport their familiar gold pants with cardinal side stripes, another aspect of the uniform that’s as iconic as the helmet. These pants, much like the helmet, speak to USC’s consistency, a hallmark of their program and a testament to the timeless nature of their aesthetic.

For fans and alumni alike, this uniform update will serve as a fitting tribute to the Trojans of the early 1970s and a reminder of the legacy every USC team seeks to uphold. So as the Trojans take on Nebraska this Saturday, they'll do so with a look that’s classic, familiar, and, most importantly, unmistakably USC.

Maryland Football Unveils Exclusive Under Armour Uniform

Maryland Football is set to take the field in a bold new look for their upcoming clash against No. 1 Oregon, debuting exclusive special edition uniforms created in collaboration with Under Armour. Known as the original Under Armour school, Maryland has been pioneering cutting-edge uniforms since the early 2000s. This innovative partnership, rooted in UA founder and CEO Kevin Plank’s own legacy as a former Maryland special teams captain and 1996 graduate, continues to drive Maryland’s bold and distinct visual identity in college sports.

The new uniforms feature a pristine, icy white base with eye-catching iridescent numbers and the iconic Script Terps logo on all-white helmets. The iridescence delivers a stunning mix of red and gold hues that shift dynamically under the lights, offering a striking interpretation of Maryland’s colors. Black and white elements add contrast to create a minimalist silhouette, accentuating the bold colors and emphasizing Maryland’s clean, powerful look.

Adding a unique twist to Maryland’s iconic state flag, this design reimagines the four-quadrant pattern in a refined, reproportioned format that offers a sophisticated take on Maryland’s brand identity. Each detail, from the Script Terps to the custom iridescence, reflects the program’s commitment to both tradition and boundary-pushing design.

Maryland’s players won’t just be suited up in innovative uniforms; they’ll also debut Under Armour’s latest cleated models: the UA Blur Pro, UA Spotlight Pro, and UA Spotlight Pro Mid. Featuring a striking red base with color-shifting effects, these cleats blend perfectly with the uniform’s dynamic look. Each cleat also showcases a tonal Terrapin print on the upper, celebrating the university’s beloved Terrapin nickname.

Completing the look are matching gloves, flooded in red and featuring the same color-shifting TPU Under Armour logo. The gloves, like the cleats, carry the tonal Terrapin print, ensuring a cohesive look that ties all aspects of the uniform together.

Jaguars Unveil "Shell White" Alternate Helmet

Just a week after exciting fans with the return of the Prowler Throwbacks for the 2024 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have once again surprised their supporters with another uniform update. This time, the team introduced the official "Shell White" Alternate Helmet, featuring a sleek, all-white, matte shell. The highly anticipated helmet is set to debut during the Week 10 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Head Equipment Manager, George Pellicer, shared the inspiration and significance behind this new addition to the Jaguars' uniform lineup.

The inspiration for the new helmet stems from a desire to celebrate the Jaguars' 30th season in Jacksonville. Pellicer explained, “One of the best parts of my job here at the Jaguars is mixing up uniform color combinations to see what looks cool. For this helmet, and to honor our 30th season here in Jacksonville, we wanted to pay homage to our diverse fan base, unifying the power of sports, our location, and a vital component of our community—the military.”

Pellicer highlighted that "Shell White" connects three primary pillars that define Jacksonville: the beach, the military, and football. “Shell White connects three primary pillars that make the city of Jacksonville what it is today. These three pillars—the beach, the military, and football—are all protected by or made beautiful by some variation of shells: seashells, jacket shells, and football shells,” he explained.

Pellicer expressed his excitement about the new design, noting that it represents a significant departure from the team’s traditional black helmets. “My favorite element is that it is something completely different from anything we have ever worn. The Jacksonville Jaguars have always worn some form of black helmets, so this will be a creative twist that we have not done yet. Plus, it will be fun to see the fans' reactions,” Pellicer shared.

Fans eagerly await the debut of the new helmet in Week 10, ready to embrace this fresh and meaningful addition to the Jaguars' gear. As George Pellicer hinted, the reactions are sure to be memorable as the Jaguars continue to celebrate their legacy with style and creativity.

Texas Tech Unveils The Patrick Mahomes Galvanized Uniform

In a groundbreaking move adidas and Patrick Mahomes have unveiled a stunning new football uniform for Texas Tech University. This exciting collaboration features Mahomes’ signature “Gladiator” logo, marking one of the rare occasions in history where an athlete’s personal brand has been incorporated into official on-field Uniform.

The new uniform, aptly named the Mahomes Strategy uniform, boasts a sleek Dark Grey tackle twill with striking Power Red accents. Its design is inspired by the 45-degree bevel found across Texas Tech’s campus, as well as the angular nature of Mahomes’ logo. The helmet, logos, and numbers are adorned with a metallic film that features galvanized finishes, creating a modern and dynamic look. Texas Tech’s football team is set to debut this innovative uniform at home against Colorado on November 9.

Mahomes, a Texas Tech alum and three-time Super Bowl champion, expressed his pride in this unique achievement: “Seeing my own logo on the Texas Tech uniform I put so much blood, sweat, and tears into is one of the most meaningful off-field accomplishments of my career. I want to thank the three-stripe family for giving me this one-of-a-kind opportunity.”

The partnership between adidas and Mahomes has consistently pushed the envelope in athlete-brand collaborations. This relationship began back in 2019, when Mahomes famously taped a handwritten adidas logo over a competitor brand while cheering for Texas Tech basketball. The Mahomes Strategy uniform is just the latest milestone in their ongoing partnership, which has already established numerous firsts in collegiate athletics and NIL initiatives.

“The unveil of the adidas Strategy uniform by Patrick Mahomes further amplifies the power of this partnership,” said Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics at Texas Tech University. “We are proud to be the first collegiate adidas partner to utilize an athlete partner’s logo. There is no more powerful brand in sports than Patrick Mahomes. We look forward to debuting this uniform in front of a sold-out Jones AT&T Stadium on November 9 against Colorado.”
