WVU Football Unveils New Uniforms for 2024 Season
West Virginia Mountaineer football is stepping into the future while paying homage to its storied past with the launch of its new uniforms for the 2024 season. Combining tradition with cutting-edge Nike technology, the Mountaineers are set to hit the field in style, boasting a blend of classic elements and modern innovations.
Designed to evoke memories and inspire excitement among fans, the new uniforms feature iconic symbols and winning aesthetics. According to Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker, the aim was to seamlessly merge the university's rich history with state-of-the-art advancements: "In developing our new uniforms, it was important for us to incorporate our rich history and tradition with modern technology."
The uniforms, crafted with Nike's Vapor F.U.S.E. technology, prioritize performance and comfort. Zoned breathability, lightweight stretch fabric, and mobility sleeves ensure optimal performance on the field while maintaining comfort and agility.
A nod to the past is evident in every detail of the uniforms. The return of the Flying WV logo to the sleeves harks back to the Don Nehlen era, instilling a sense of nostalgia among fans. Additionally, the revival of the shoulder stripe, synonymous with the Mountaineers' glory years from 2007 to 2012, adds a touch of tradition to the contemporary design.
Delving deeper into Mountaineer history, the gold pants feature the revered "Nehlen Stripes," a tribute to Coach Nehlen's legacy and the team's historic successes. The blue pants introduce the iconic stripes for the first time, echoing the program's rich heritage.
Head coach Neal Brown expressed enthusiasm for the new uniforms, emphasizing the perfect blend of tradition and innovation: "We have truly mixed tradition and modern technology in the new uniforms."
The Mountaineers will have a plethora of uniform combinations, with nine different pant/jersey options, providing versatility and style on game days. The classic blue helmet remains a fan favorite, adorned with the gold Flying WV emblem, while a white and gold helmet option adds further flexibility to the team's look.
Designed collaboratively by the athletics department and Nike, the new uniforms reflect the Mountaineers' commitment to excellence both on and off the field. As West Virginia takes to the gridiron in 2024, fans can expect a dynamic fusion of tradition, innovation, and Mountaineer pride.
