Purdue will hit the field for Homecoming in a special alternate look. The Boilermakers special uniform honors the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 lunar mission and Purdue’s accreditation as the Cradle of Astronauts.
The team will have custom moon-inspired helmets and astronaut-themed patches on their jerseys. The special helmet features a chrome gold mask on a white helmet, meant to represent the gold tint of a space suit’s visor. The lids will also have a grey and white moon pattern on the Purdue P as well as the center stripe featuring Armstrong’s first footprints on the moon. On the back on the center stripe are the numbers 2 25 64 representing the Purdue men on the moon, Purdue astronauts and space missions by Purdue astronauts. The back bumper on the helmets will read “One Giant Leap”.
On the jersey and the helmet we will see a mission patch that illustrates the Griffin, from Purdue’s crest, planting the Purdue flag on the moon, similar to the American flag being plated on the moon 50 years ago.
