Nike to take over the MLB
Reports have surfaced that Nike and the MLB are finalizing a deal for Nike to become the on-field apparel partner. The deal that was announced in 2016 that Under Armour would be taking over the MLB contract is now switching to Nike.
"These rights were originally awarded to Under Amrour in '16, but the company’s recent financial problems made an on-field deal untenable. An industry source said that by not doing the deal, UA will save around $50M at a time when the brand's growth has slowed and its market cap shrunk dramatically." said SportsBusiness Daily.
If Nike deal goes through for the MLB look for the announcement to come around All-Star Week with all eyes on baseball. Nike will now have the big 3 of sports adding the MLB to their roster of NFL and NBA.
