Denver lacrosse is set to debut black jerseys when they take on Princeton. This will be the first time in 10 season that the Pioneers will hit the field in a black jersey paired with black shorts and crimson helmets.
“The story started on May 23, 1992, in the national semifinals against North Carolina. On that day, Tierney planned on debuting the Tigers' black jerseys to fire the guys up ahead of what was also his first of now 15 semifinal appearances. Field temperatures were well over 100 degrees on that Saturday, so Tierney had to pull out of allowing the 1992 Tigers team to wear the new jerseys that day. Following the Tigers 16-14 win over North Carolina in the semifinal, the weather had turned, setting the scene two days later with a 50 degree overcast day for the first of four Syracuse and Princeton title match-up's in Tierney's tenure. Tierney and the Tigers' debut of the black jerseys were on the front page of newspapers on the Tuesday after Memorial Day in 1992 following Tierney's first of seven NCAA titles, a 10-9 victory.” -DenverPioneers.com
